Preschool: Reggio Emilia Inspired Classroom and Curriculum

Children are provided with rich materials and experiences that promote expression, curiosity, problem solving and positive social interactions.  The educator facilitates student learning by encouraging questions and problem solving as children interact with materials and each other.

Programs Available

[Note: Children must be at least three years of age, but not yet five on or before September 1st of the current school year.]

Preschool for All

  • Half day program (AM and PM)
  • Sessions limited to 20 students

  • Full day program:  allows early drop-off, late pick-up
  • Enrollment limited to 20 students

Art Center

  • Children are given opportunities throughout the day to explore open ended materials that allow them to focus on their creative processes.

Math/Science Center

  • Daily activities and hands-on materials allow children to work on counting, sorting, patterning, graphing, as well as higher order math skills. Weekly cooking activities allow children to measure, scoop, mix and create. Science activities include materials that promote prediction, hypothesizing and active exploration.

Literacy Center

  • Planned opportunities for children to activate their background knowledge. Activities stress emerging literacy by emphasizing letter and print awareness, and an understanding that pre-reading, pre-writing, listening and speaking are valuable avenues for learning.

Dramatic Play

  • Social, emotional and language development are fostered in the interactions children have with each other through sociodramatic play. Children are provided with time during their day for free play and to take on real life roles.

  • All areas of development are nurtured in the Block Area, where children are able to construct structures using blocks, wood and other recycled materials.

Library

  • A rich collection of books is available for children to read independently or with a teacher. Books are circulated often and with the children's interests in mind. A lending library is available for children to check out books to take home.
